SOPA shelved by US Congress
PIPA remains in discussion in the Senate
The controversial US anti-piracy legislation the SOPA bill has been put on hold by the House of Representatives.
The bill has been shelved after it met with strong resistance from various corners of the internet including many prominent games industry players like Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, EA and Epic. President Obama even threatened to veto the bill if it were to pass across its desk.
SOPA may have been shelved but the Senate equivalent, the Protect IP Act or PIPA, which still contains a DNS blocking proposition similar to those dropped from the original SOPA bill remains alive in the Senate.
Reddit, Wikipedia, MoveOn, Wordpress, BoingBoing and Mozilla will all be holding 24-hour blackouts tomorrow (January the 18th) in protest of the SOPA and PIPA bills.
